Daniel Sachs on business, democracy and migration

In an interview in Svenska Dagbladet with Jan Almgren, published 16 July, Daniel Sachs argues that companies cannot treat democracy as someone else’s responsibility. Established parties are losing ground, he says, driven less by ideology than by people’s lost trust in the establishment’s ability to deliver a better future – and business has a direct stake in that. Social trust, mobility, the rule of law and independent research are conditions no government can sustain on its own.

He points to F1RST and Forum för Innanförskap as examples of what companies can do without waiting for politicians, and names European competitiveness as the election issue that matters most in a time when the US can no longer be relied on and China goes its own way.

On the recent deportations of teenagers who were educated in Sweden and see themselves as Swedish, he is blunt: a humanitarian disgrace, a moral collapse, and economically senseless.
